Fines and Payments

Payment of your fines is the same as pleading "no contest" and waiving your right to a jury trial. You will be found guilty and the convictions will be reported to the Department of Public Safety (if applicable).

Make Your Payment

You may deliver your payment to the Court in one of five ways.
  1. Pay your fine online. You can access information about your citation and pay your fine online from the Court's public information website. Click here.
  2. Bring your payment in person to any Court location.
  3. Mail your payment to the Court at the Downtown mailing address.
  4. If paying by major credit card, you may telephone in your payment at (512) 974-4640.
** This number is for credit card payments only. If you need case information, please call (512) 974-4800.
  5. Place your payment in the drop-box safe located in the Downtown Court lobby. The drop box is accessible after normal operating hours and 24 hours per day on weekends and holidays.

Note: The drop box is NOT for cash payments! We accept payments by check, money order, or major credit card.

Payment by Check or Money Order
Make your check or money order payable to The City of Austin in the full amount due. Write your ticket number on the check or money order along with your drivers license number and date of birth. Please indicate if you have an address change.

Payment by Major Credit Card
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards. To pay by credit card, complete the information on the back of the yellow copy of the ticket and mail it to the Court. Alternately, you may call our payment line at (512) 974-4640 and make your payment by phone.

Partial and Late Payments

If you do not plead on all charges shown on the ticket by the appearance date, you may expect an arrest warrant to be issued and arrest fees added to your amount due. Also, you will no longer be eligible for the lower Early fine amount. Instead your fine amount will increase to the higher Standard fine amount.

Payment received late will be accepted and posted. You will be notified by mail at the address shown on your ticket if additional fines apply.

Payment Extension

If you cannot afford to pay, you must go to a Court location to request an extension to pay fines due.

Getting Specific Information about Your Fine

Fine information is provided on the back of your ticket. If, however, you need to see copies of the fine schedules click here. To get information about how much you owe the Court, you can call our Interactive Voice Response system at (512) 974-4800. Choose the Fines and Payments option, then option 6 for calculating the fines you owe. You will need to know your citation number or your drivers' license number.

Calculate What Is Due

To calculate your total amount due, refer to the blue sheet given to you by the officer at the time your ticket was issued. Add the fine for each violation shown on your ticket.

Please note:
* if the Collision box is checked your fine is listed at the top of the fine schedule.
* if "worker's present" is checked in the Construction Zone box, special fines apply. You must contact the Court.
* If you are age 16 or younger, DO NOT pay the fine. You must appear in Court with your parent(s). A notice will be mailed to the address on your ticket.

If you are not sure of the violation charged or the fine due, you will have to come to the Court or contact the Court Information Assistance Operators at (512) 974-4800. Operators are available Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. To allow for data entry, please wait at least 5 days after the offense date before calling the Court.
