Austin is experiencing rapid growth—and so are many cities nationwide and worldwide, as the world population becomes increasingly urbanized. Cities can offer improved access to employment, housing, healthcare, education, and other services. This urbanization creates opportunities, but also puts stresses on these services and on resources, transportation, and environment. Thus, many cities around the world are adopting ‘smart city’ approaches—using technology, data, and analytics—to help tackle challenges, solve issues, and improve city services, operations, infrastructure, and environments. Smart city approaches can make cities better, and improve the lives of people living, visiting, and working in cities.
Austin is one of the most technologically savvy cities in the world, but is only now developing a vision for itself as a smart city. Bolstered by efforts such as competing for the US Department of Transportation $50M Smart Cities Challenge, hosting the Smart Cities Innovation Summit, and creating the Austin CityUP Consortium to advance smart city efforts, Austin is poised to become a leader in smart city approaches. Come hear from leaders from the City of Austin, Capital Metro, UT Austin, and leading technology companies about how Austin is already using smart city approaches, what will happen next, and how you can contribute to making Austin even better.
Parking is available in the garage located at the Four Seasons or nearby parking garages. Free parking is available on the street after 6pm.
