City Council wants to know whether you would like the City to consider permitting “digital billboards”—similar to regular billboards, except that digital billboards change messages frequently. While the City does have laws governing the use of regular billboards, it has not allowed the installation of digital billboards to date.
To clarify, this relates to digital billboards not signs on private property—you may see digital signs on a business’s own property, which are regulated differently than billboards located away from the business or organization using the billboard.
The City will host a public forum on this topic on Thursday, April 28th, beginning at 6pm at Austin City Hall. At the event, you’ll have the chance to share your opinions about billboards and digital billboards, while also getting background from City staff, digital billboard advocates, and those opposed to digital billboards.
