Office of the City Auditor - Audit & Finance Committee

Chapter 2-3-9 of the Austin City Code establishes an Audit and Finance Committee that consists of four Council Members selected by the City Council. The Mayor Pro Tem currently serves as chair and the appointment of Committee members will be reaffirmed annually in October. The current members are Mayor Pro Tem Betty Dunkerley, Council Member Brewster McCracken, Council Member Sheryl Cole, and Council Member Lee Leffingwell.

The Audit and Finance Committee's purpose is to assist the City Council in carrying out its oversight and improvement responsibilities as they relate to the city's financial and performance reporting practices, internal controls, compliance with laws and regulations, and initiatives to improve the performance of city services.

The Office of the City Auditor reports to the City Council and presents its completed work to the City Council for committee acceptance through the Audit and Finance Committee. Meetings are held monthly in public forum and the City Auditor prepares the monthly agendas for the committee.

Unless otherwise noted, the Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in room 1101 in City Hall, located at 301 W. 2nd Street. At times the meetings may be rescheduled to accommodate Council Committee member scheduling or holiday conflicts. Here are the scheduled meeting dates for 2007:

The minutes for each meeting will be available on this web page after they have been accepted, which is generally after the following Audit & Finance Committee meeting. Currently, each meeting is filmed live on Channel 6 and replayed periodically (go to Channel 6 for a replay schedule) and recorded to DVD and stored at the City Clerk's Office). The Austin History Center archives a complete packet of material from each meeting.
