The City of Austin’s Development Services and Transportation Departments are implementing Rough Proportionality as the state-mandated way to verify that transportation improvements required of developers during the application process are appropriate and fair. Implementation of Rough Proportionality means other changes to the development process, most notably including the elimination of the “pro rata” share for TIA improvements.
Implementation of Rough Proportionality does not require action by Austin City Council or City Staff and will move forward immediately. However, the City is contemplating potential Code amendments to clarify policies related to this process.
- Presentation - During the information sessions, attendees will hear a brief presentation on Rough Proporionality and change to our current practices and then will be able to ask questions of staff.
- Worksheet [.XLS]- All determinations will be performed by the City. Applicants are encouraged to use this worksheet prior to or during application submittal to estimate the roughly proportionate limit of transportation improvements they may be required to contribute.

The City of Austin invites the development community to attend one of two information sessions on Rough Proportionality and what it means for the process and development in Austin. These meetings are open to the public.
