Americans with Disabilities Act

According to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.), a public entity that has a minimum of 50 employees is required to designate an individual to oversee their compliance of the A.D.A.. These responsibilities for compliance only apply to the City of Austin as an organization with regards to its programs, services and facilities.

Enforcement

Enforcement of the A.D.A. is the responsibility of the U. S. Department of Justice. The City of Austin has designated Dolores Gonzalez as the City-wide A.D.A. Coordinator. She and Assistant A.D.A. Coordinator, Lee Nguyen, can be reached at (512) 974-3256 and (512) 974-1897 respectively. Housed in the Human Resources Department, the A.D.A. Office assists a team of departmental A.D.A. Coordinators in complying with all aspects of A.D.A. as they relate to the City of Austin.

Complaint Process

Also, in accordance with the ADA, the City of Austin has an established complaint process. The process is found in the Disability Ordinance in the City of Austin Code . If you have a complaint or concern pertaining to a City service, program or facility, please contact Dolores Gonzalez at 974-3256.

ADA Activities

In addition, the City of Austin A.D.A. Office has an established set of activities which apply a customer service philosophy to assist citizens and businesses in the Austin metropolitan area. In an effort to be more inclusive, the City of Austin is now captioning City Council Meetings and providing transcripts of those meetings. However, Sign Language Interpreters will be provided upon request for City Council Meetings as well as other City-sponsored events, public meetings or hearings. Please contact the City of Austin ADA Office to make these requests.
