How do I update my TCAD address?

Physical Address Updates

You will need to contact the Address Management Services office to first verify your correct address. Once verified, the Address Management Services team will notify the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) of the correct situs or physical address. Although TCAD might update their internal records upon notification, their website might not reflect this change for several months. If you need to change your physical address, please contact us at the Address Change Review form.

Also, while we send a courtesy notification to TCAD, this does not ensure that your records have been updated in their system. If you need verification that their records have been updated, you will need to contact TCAD directly at traviscad.org.

Mailing Address Updates

Please also note the Situs Address or the physical address is not the same as your Mailing Address. To update your TCAD Mailing Address, you will need to contact TCAD directly to request this at traviscad.org. The Address Management Services office can only verify and notify TCAD of the Situs or physical Address.

How do I find out my ZIP Code?

The City of Austin's Address Management Services office does not maintain ZIP Codes. Only the US Postal Service can accurately verify your ZIP Code. You can use the ZIP Code lookup tool on the US Postal Service website, or contact them directly at 800-275-8777.

I need to find out what city my property is located in. How do I do this?

You can verify your property’s jurisdiction by visiting the City of Austin’s Jurisdictions Web Map and following the steps below:

To find an address and the property profile:

  1. Click on the blue “I want to…” button to start an address search.
  2. On the pull-down, select “Find My Jurisdiction” and click on it.
  3. On the Address Search panel, enter the address in the "Start typing an address" box. Ex. 100 E 6th St
  4. It will show you a list of address matches. It looks for a match to an address point first, and then on a street range if a point doesn’t exist. We recommend picking the Address from the list whenever possible. Simply select the one you want in the list. It will take you to that location.
  5. Click Submit
  6. If the address you have entered is not assigned, the map will display the nearest valid address.
  7. If the address you entered has been assigned, the map will show it along with the following information, listed in the Address Panel:
  • Full Address and Street Name
  • Jurisdiction
  • Council District, if located within City of Austin
  • County
  • Map Grid
  • Link to Property Website takes you to the Appraisal District property information
  • Depending upon the location there may also be links to the Zoning Profile, Annexations, and if secondary addresses (BLDG or UNIT designators) have been added, they will also be displayed

     8. Click Property Profile. This will list property details including:

  • Parcel ID
  • Council District
  • Jurisdiction
  • County

You may contact the Address Management Services team with questions concerning jurisdiction verification. While we can determine the city and county your address is located in, we are unable to provide City/County permitting information.

When an address is changed, who does the Address Management Services office notify and who is the property owner responsible for notifying?

Address changes are published on the Address Management Services website. Agencies that reference the address change database to update their records include:

  • Emergency service providers (Police, Fire, EMS)
  • United States Postal Service (1-800-275-8777)
  • Travis Central Appraisal District (512-834-9317)
  • Williamson County Appraisal District (512-930-3787)
  • Travis County Voter Registration (512-854-4454)
  • Williamson County Voter Registration (512-943-1629)
  • Time Warner Cable (512-485-5555)
  • AT&T (1-800-464-7928)
  • Texas Gas Service (1-800-700-2443)
  • Austin Energy (512-494-9400)

The Post Office will continue to deliver mail sent to your former address for at least one year. This period is normally sufficient to change printed matter, notify correspondents and correct telephone listings. The Post Office requests you not fill out a Change of Address form from the Post Office. The Post Office requests you update the address numbers on your mailbox to your assigned 9-1-1 address by the effective date provided on your address change notification.

The property owner will need to contact the entities directly to update their billing/mailing address. Although the above entities have access to the address change database, this does not ensure that your records have been updated in their system. If you need verification that their records have been updated, you will need to contact them directly.

Are there recommendations for posting my address?

Yes. Please clearly post addresses so they are visible from the street. Consider that emergency responders may be searching for an address at night, or in smoke, fog or heavy rain. Darkness and bad weather greatly reduce the visibility of addresses. Any addressing conflicts that may be obvious in daylight can be confusing in the dark or in bad weather. Your address is assigned to make it possible for the emergency service providers to locate your address as quickly as possible.  You can help them by posting your assigned address using reflective numbers.

Please visit the Posting Street Number website for more information.

How do I stop Avast Antivirus from blocking your website and/or web forms?

If Avast blocks any website, you can add an exception from the Avast blacklist to access the blocked website.

Avast provides a whitelist, a list of entities considered trustworthy. You can add file paths, URLs, and specific applications to this list, and use Avast to exclude them from being scanned. To except URLs from Avast protection, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open Avast on your computer and go to the Avast dashboard.

Step 2: Click Menu, and click the Settings tab. Click the Exceptions tab under the General tab

Step 3: Under this tab, click ADD EXCEPTION and a new window will appear. Type the URL that you want to add to your exception list.

Step 4: Click ADD EXCEPTION to save the URL.

The website and/or web form you want to access should now be available.

Guides and Instructions

Residential One Sheet
Residential Plan Reviews are processed within the City of Austin's Development Services Department, but you need a 911 Address first.  Use this guide to determine if you have a valid address or if you need to speak with an Addressing representative before beginning your review process.

Service addresses are assigned by the local addressing authority. Travis County entered into an inter-local agreement to have City of Austin Address Management Services to assign service addresses for the city proper, unincorporated Travis County, and a number of other municipalities within the county.

When new subdivisions are recorded, and after the plats have been delivered to Address Management Services, addresses are assigned to each lot. Un-subdivided parcels are assigned addresses on a case-by-case basis.
